Workers with this qualification have tradesperson-level skills in the manufacture and/or installation of products, including furniture and cabinetry, made from timber and other materials.

They have core skills in tool use, measuring, drawing (including computer-aided design), interpreting work documentation, preparing cutting lists, communication, teamwork, and safe and environmentally sustainable work practices. They may have specialised skills in wood machining, cabinet and furniture making, kitchen and bathroom construction and installation, marine cabinetry, coopering or drafting.

Work is in a defined range of skilled operations, usually within a range of broader activities involving established routines, methods and procedures, where some discretion and judgement is required in the selection of equipment, services or contingency measures. Individuals collaborate with others to achieve quality outcomes and take responsibility for their own work. They may have some limited responsibility for the work of others.

Kitchen and bathroom installers must be licensed in some states, and induction training is required for those working on construction sites.

  • Students must be physically capable of performing practical cabinet making tasks and working in construction environments.
  • International students must meet the provider's English language and entry requirements.
  • A White Card (Construction Induction Card) is required before undertaking workshop practices and work on construction sites.

NB. CPCWHS1001 is not identified as an entry requirement for this qualification; however, several units within the qualification require it as a prerequisite. Consequently, all applicants must complete CPCWHS1001 before being admitted to MSF30322.

Entry Requirements

  • CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry or a White Card (Construction Induction Card).
  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills to successfully complete training and assessments.

RTO Requirements for International Students

International students must fulfill certain English language requirements for admission into ASIA:

  • Be at least 18 years old and have completed Year 12 or an equivalent qualification.
  • Participate in a course entry interview to assess suitability and needs.
  • Obtain an IELTS* score of 6.0 (results should be within 2 years). Other English language tests like PTE and TOEFL may also be accepted. The results should be equivalent to IELTS 6.0.

Language, Literacy and Numeracy Test (LLN)

Candidates undertaking this course must possess adequate numeracy skills, as it involves calculations, reading anaphylaxis plans and medication labels, and interpreting the National Quality Framework and Standards. All learners are required to undertake a language, literacy, and numeracy (LLN) test mapped at ACSF level 4, conducted by the institute. If learners do not meet the English and LLN requirements, they may be required to undertake further language, literacy, and numeracy training and English Language Intensive Course for Overseas Students (ELICOS) programs at their own expense before enrolling in MSF30322 Certificate III in Cabinet Making and Timber Technology.
